The aim of the day is to provide a practical guide to managing colour and image quality all the way from RAW to Print output.
The guidance is universal and applicable to all photographers whether Mac or PC users, and is provided by independent tutor Jonathan Briggs.
For example purposes, Aperture 2.1 and PhotoShop CS3 will be used on a Mac platform, but the techniques can be applied across the board. This is a lecture-style seminar with the opportunity for informal questions and trouble shooting.
Topics to be covered will include:
Understanding colour - the human element
Awareness of your own role in the workflow is key - from controlling your working environment to some common sense dos and dont's, it's not all down to computers after all...
What's a colour space and why do I need to know?
An in-depth explanation of colour spaces, plus maintenance of the colour management chain, from RAW through to Adobe Photoshop. When it matters, when it doesn't. What's actually going on when you print?
The rendering intent question
Output to a print device depends on your management of rendering intent. How it works, and how it impacts on your images.
RAW processing and post-production - miracles don't happen!
Image fidelity is a mix of camera technique and careful processing. Understand exactly what RAW can do and how to get the best out of your file. Plus guidance on capture and output sharpness, along with some effective retouching techniques, tips and tricks.
Soft proofing and the 'lights on' moment
Using the Soft Proofing facility allows accurate adjustment to compensate for the individual characteristics of print devices and media. A simple guide to using this often-neglected bit of magic!
Black and White - new approaches in the digital environment
Specialised techniques from RAW through to advanced print output, helping you take complete control.
