Lightroom - A virtual one stop photography editing package primarily for Raw files. As Raw file editing packages become easier to use more of us are turning to Raw as the "new file format". Understanding how Raw files work can be confusing but understanding how they can benefit you can be even more so! Your tutor will explain:

* how raw files work in simple terms
* how a Raw file work flow will help you produce stunning results
* how a Raw file work flow can manage thousands of files simply and efficiently.

He will guide you through the process of importing your images through to final output. Showing you how to back catalogue your existing work, add key words and manage your work with metadata. He will also demystify some of those more complex controls found on Lightroom's interface. Adobe's Lightroom takes you through to the final print stage where you will be shown how to do contact sheets and set-ups for print runs. You'll also be guided through the stages of making a custom slide show.

Programmes such as Lightroom will bring massive benefits to any photographer working in any field. So whether your photography is in portraits or landscapes, architecture or sports or purely indulgence in all subjects, Raw is the way to go.

Adobe have created a program designed purely for photographers which is a real gem to use.

Your Tutor

Alex Hyde MSci. MSc. is a professional natural history photographer based in the Peak District National Park. Alex's in-depth knowledge of natural history underpins his imaging, allowing him to capture intimate portraits of wildlife in its natural habitat. During his career, Alex has established himself as an expert in macro photography. This frequently involves photographing moving subjects smaller than a grain of rice, requiring highly specialised equipment and an inexhaustible patience. The resulting portraits of insects, spiders and other wee beasties are truly captivating, providing a unique vision of the natural world. Alex's work is represented by a world-leading wildlife photo library where his images enjoy a global uptake. As well as teaching at the Peak Photo Centre, Alex lectures at the University of Nottingham where he is actively involved in a variety of research projects.
