The May Bank Holiday weekend saw the British Institute of Professional Photography attend a conference that some may think is not particularly relevant to the photographic profession!  BIPP spent the weekend in Bournemouth, talking to members of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine, of the Royal College of Physicians.  Around 120 physicians listened to speakers including Professor Richard Shepherd (Forensic Pathologist), Lord Toby Harris (the Chair of the Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody) and Dame Esther Rantzen (speaking on Child Line and Silver Line, two charities geared towards some of the most vulnerable members of society).

Thoughout the conference an underlying theme was evident - the use of photography to gather evidence.  Image capture is becoming a vital part of physicians’ work and BIPP was at hand to discuss the importance of professional photography and the best ways to achieve results.  At times, the information was harrowing, but the delegates were incredibly committed to their work and extremely grateful that BIPP was there to advise and to promote awareness of professionalism and standards within another profession.  Thanks to Dr Will Anderson ABIPP for organising the event and for recognising the links between two apparently disparate fields of work, and to Eric Jenkins Hon FBIPP who gave up his weekend to join us in promoting professional photography!
