7pm

What does Photography mean to you?  How do you perceive yourself as a photographer? Are you looking to be inspired?  Do you want to stretch yourself both as photographer as well as a person? Then this is the talk for you.

My own journey in the world of photography has taken me to such places as recording life in The Jungle, Calais, to creating award winning wedding photography, and achieving my fellowship in conceptual portraiture…

Personal growth has been an important ingredient in unleashing more of my potential and communicating the power of photography,  creating emotive images, whether it is in Documentary style or developing my own conceptual work.

My purpose is to support you in your own development, bringing insight into my personal inspiration in the hope that it will feed yours. I would love to talk you through how I perceive the world of photography, a love that we share and are devoted too.

Wednesday 23 January 2019 - Nocturnal Photography with Dan Freeman FBIPP

The Hub, Littleton Street West, Walsall, WS2 8ES

Having spent the majority of his adult life photographing at night, Dan Freeman is best known for his nocturnal captures of a variety of scenes, both natural and man-made. This passion for shooting in the darkness has seen him travel to some incredible locations and gain qualified status with the BIPP. Dan’s nocturnal imagery has won awards and featured in a number of publications and exhibitions. The current project, focusing on small town nocturnal America, has attracted the attention of several major media outlets, including BBC News. Dan also teaches photography at his local college.

During his talk Dan shared a selection of his nocturnal photography, discussing image creation and providing anecdotes regarding their conception. This covered a variety of Dan’s nocturnal projects including work from the ‘Nightscapes’ and ‘Nocturnal America’ series.

“For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the night time and by photography. In my early twenties I found a way to marry these two interests and discovered my passion for nocturnal image capture - a passion that has become relentless. For me photographing at night is the ultimate escape; a tranquillity found during image capture that is unrivalled. The night time offers so many opportunities to be creative that I don’t think I could ever tire of working after sundown.”
