BenSoc is the Benevolent Society of the BIPP. All BIPP members are automatically considered to receive its benefits.
What does BenSoc do?
The Benevolent Society of the BIPP assists people in need -- and their immediate families -- who are or have been members of the BIPP. Appropriate help is given which may be single grants or loans in case of emergency or regular grants in cases of long term hardship. But benevolence means more than money. BenSoc aims to help, give encouragement, offer friendship and just show that somebody cares.
How does BenSoc work?
Direct requests for help can be made but we also recognise that many people are reluctant to admit they need help. BenSoc therefore relies on members of the BIPP to draw attention to fellow members who have fallen on hard times. What sort of hardship qualifies for BenSoc help? Since everyone's problems are different, there are no set solutions. The help and support BenSoc can offer is tailored to individual need, whether caused by bereavement, illness, disability or dramatic and unforeseen changes in financial circumstances.
Who runs BenSoc?
The committee of management are committed volunteers from within the BIPP. It has been working quietly and effectively in this way since the 1920s and, during that time, has helped many hundreds of people. Where does the money come from? BenSoc relies on financial support from BIPP members. Continuing generosity is needed to support an ever growing need. Money is raised by fund raising events at regional events, by annual donations through Bankers Order and legacies. BenSoc also runs a 200 Club where, for the price of a modest annual donation of £20.00, members can win monthly prizes and an annual prize.
