Complaints

If you're experiencing problems with your photographer, there are some simple steps you can take to resolve the issues.

î  firstly identify the exact issues you have - rather than 'we don't like the photos' try writing down exactly why you don't like each image.  It could be that a wedding dress has been cropped off of the photo, or the image isn't sharp.  Do you have the images you asked for?

î  once you've clarified what you consider the issues to be, call the photographer and suggest you meet to discuss your concerns.

î  the majority of complaints can usually be sorted out face to face and it is always better to attempt this, before taking a complaint to the next level.

î  if you're still unhappy, check that the photographer (not the company) is a qualified member of the BIPP.  If they are, they are bound by a code of professional conduct and a complaints procedure.  Just call the BIPP on 01296 718530.

î  if they're not a member of BIPP, we cannot assess their work.  Your best course of action would be to gather together all paperwork, images, contracts etc, and contact either your local trading standards office or citizens' advice bureau.

Many complaints can be avoided by making sure you clearly set out your requirements when you book your photographer.  For more information on how to choose a photographer, questions to ask when looking at photographs and steps on how to avoid the pitfalls, visit our page choosing a photographer.

Remember, always ensure you use a qualified professional photographer - our free search tool, Find A Photographer, lists professionally qualified self-employed photographers.  Search for several in your area, look at their work and arrange to meet with your favourites.

Please note that the BIPP is only able to consider complaints made against qualified members of the BIPP.
