Fran Halsall LBIPP first used an SLR when she was 13 and she became fascinated with the process of making images. Fran studied Fine Art at university where she worked across a variety of media until she returned to photography, partly fuelled by the potential of emerging digital photography.
With a love of the great outdoors and a strong awareness of conservation, she was inspired to document her relationship with nature. Fran has developed her own style over the years partly drawn from a desire to create simple, even minimalist, photographs which have the potential to be timeless. She used to be more impulsive and now spends more time planning shoots . "I have learnt to be much more patient, often waiting days for one photograph - seeking out the right lighting and weather conditions to convey the mood I have in mind."

Fran's advice to budding landscape photographers is to be prepared to work long hours and dedicate years of your life to achieving your ambition. "Don't sell your work for too little money - always a temptation when you are new to the industry. Finally keep trying. Not everyone will like what you have to offer, but if you set your standards high and keep plugging away, someone will eventually recognise all the hard work." Fran's hard work has definitely paid off and earlier this year she launched her first solo book 'The Peak District'.
Fran appreciates knowing that through her BIPP membership there is a support network she can turn to. "The nature of my business means I spend most of my time working alone, so it is good to have people on hand to offer advice. There is also the presitige of being involved with a well-recognised insitutution, it hopefully speaks volumes about my credibility."
