Mission Statement

The British Institute of Professional Photography is the only professional body for photographers in the U.K.  We are a not-for-profit organisation, rather than a trade association.  We qualify, train and support photographers and, by working with our members and industry partners, ensure the future of the professional photographic industry.

As a professional organisation we endeavour to be responsible for:

î  Setting the qualifications and conditions for entry to the profession in the form of assessments that are challenging and require a relevant period of study

î  Setting the continuing training and qualification requirements

î  Setting practice standards and issuing practice guidance

î  Maintaining a Professional Standards Board

î  Setting Ethical and Conduct requirements

î  Ensuring members maintain a high degree of competence and expertise via CPD

î  Monitoring the service provided by members to deal with areas of risk and to assure quality

î  Implementing whistle-blowing procedures and fitness-to-practice schemes

î  Handling complaints and taking appropriate action for transgressions from the professional standards.

î  Taking decisions independently and in the public interest
