Photographers' Rights

Many photographers contact us requesting information on 'photographers rights'.  Two main areas are:

Copyright - more information can be found on our copyright page, or on the Intellectual Property Office website at www.ipo.gov.uk

Their right to take photos - there is an increasing amount of stories in the press about the restrictions placed on photographers when taking shots and their right to have their images published.  Again, it's a complex legal question and depends very much on individual circumstance.  However, BIPP photographers have access to a detailed explanation of their rights (in the members' area of www.bipp.com), along with free legal advice.

If you are not a member of the BIPP, your citizens' advice bureau may be able to help.
