Stammers Bursary
Chris Stammers FBIPP. It was with devastating sadness that the BIPP learnt of the untimely death of our colleague Chris Stammers FBIPP.
Chris's Background Chris was a staff photographer for several years with Johnson Matthey before joining the Physics Photographic department at Oxford University from which he took early retirement in 2006. Chris had a passion for image making that went far beyond the job specification of an in-house photographer. Travel photography, in particular architectural commissions, became a significant part of his life, however the topics and criteria of his subjects were always moving to new fields, his capture of the eclipse of the sun in 1999 will always be very significant in its composition and execution.
Chris gained his Fellowship in Architectural photography with a submission covering the work of some of the leading late 20th century architects. Frank O. Gehry's work in Bilbao on the Guggenheim Museum and his Fish Sculpture in Barcelona , Santiago Calatrava's design of the Bac de Roda bridge commissioned for the Barcelona Olympic games and work by Sir Norman Foster in Berlin and Valencia all captured with creativity and professionalism of the highest order. Chris was so very proud of his Fellowship.
Chris was always a regular at INFOT bringing support and enthusiasm to the event. Chris who died whilst on holiday in Greece, will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The Bursary Chris bequeathed a sum of money to the Institute and the Directors felt that it would be fitting to set up the Stammers Bursary to support new photographers in the Forensic, Scientific and Architectural fields of work.
To Apply The funding can be awarded for training and development of new photographers in the fields of Scientific, Forensic and Architectural photography. Applications are welcome until 1st September each year.
In the first instance, we would need an outline business proposal, a cash flow forecast and details of areas of support that have been offered e.g. work placements or college courses.
Once the Bursary group have met, BIPP Head Office will advise the applicant if any funding has been approved.
If you wish to apply, please contact "Stammers Bursary" at BIPP Head Office. |
