Who we are:
On 28 March 1901 one hundred photographers assembled at a hotel in Fleet Street, and unanimously formed ‘The Professional Photographers’ Association’. Branches were formed in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Hull and Liverpool. By 1907 the membership stood at 757. Since then the numbers have pulsed up and down along with the times and there have been three name changes before settling with the British Institute of Professional Photography.
With more of our members now fulfilling multiple roles on client jobs, including videography, drone work and advanced retouching, the purpose of the institute was re-written. The Institute evolved once again into its shortened name, The BIPP, embracing its international membership fully across 31 different countries.
The story is not yet fully written, and there is much more to see from our heritage archives too. Why not learn more about us?
