BIPP Fellow Mike Curry has published his second book, Fleeting Reflections II, and has kindly supplied the BIPP with a copy of the incredible collection of work.
Members may remember in issue one of ‘the Photographer’ magazine 2022, where we featured Mike’s work on the front cover and a story about his unique abstract photography that captures reflections in water.
After the success of the first Fleeting Reflection books, Mike’s continued his signature style and technique in 200 new limited edition books that combine his favourite work from the first book and additional complex multiple exposure photos shot on a larger format camera.
Lucky to have our hands on a copy, sifting through the pages of the beautifully put-together book is a breathtaking experience, with every turn of the page displaying Mike’s eye for detail, and his ability to find beauty in an unexpected place.
The book features diverse, dramatic and dynamic patterns created by reflections, ripples and waves in the water. Mike’s compositions are expertly framed, with a keen sense of balance and symmetry that draws the eye in and holds it there.
The otherworldly and ethereal patterns transport you into a dreamlike realm as you stare into the captivating imagery, which could mirror images shot of the wonders of space by the James Webb Space Telescope.
In some photographs, the reflection of sky, buildings and clouds adds layers to the scene, while in others, the patterns created by waves or currents resemble otherworldly landscapes or abstract paintings. Each photograph is a visual feast for the senses, inviting the viewer to get lost in the image’s intricate details and subtle nuances.
One of the most impressive aspects of Fleeting Reflection II is how he captures the essence of water. Through the interplay of light, shadow, and movement, he creates a sense of depth and texture that is both mesmerizing and surreal.
Whether you are a photography lover or appreciate nature’s beauty, this book is sure to leave a lasting impression. Highly recommended.
